Your Network is Your NetWorth
Surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals that have the same goals and ambitions as you is imperative if you’re going to succeed in not only real estate but anything you set out to accomplish. I’m sure you’ve heard this said one way or another that “Your Network is Your NetWorth” or “Your income is the average of the 5 people you spend your time with”… and the crazy thing is it’s true!
I’ve always made sure to position myself around other successful people who had what I was working towards. If I was the smartest guy in the room then I knew I was in the wrong place! Let’s think about it this way…If I had $1,000,000 and I needed advice on what to do with it, would I take advice from the guy that has never had more than $50,000 in his bank account…NO! I would go to the guy who has $2,000,000 in his account because he’s been where I am and is where I’m going to be.
But let’s take this one step further, it’s more than just surrounding yourself with successful people, it’s about who you are around on a day-to-day basis and what kind of energy/mindset they project onto you. Have you ever been having a great day and you meet up with that friend who is always negative? What happens? All of a sudden you leave and you’re in a bad mood and you’re suddenly negative about everything! Starting to recognize who is an asset on your journey and who’s not is a huge step toward accomplishing your goals.
And look I get it, it’s easier said than done. A lot of us are born into a family that doesn’t understand what we’re trying to accomplish and we’ve had the same close friends for the last 5/10/15 years, and unknowingly we’ve accepted who we are and where we’re at. But I’m going to challenge you to take a really close look at who you’re surrounding yourself with. Are they challenging you to be better? Are they pushing to achieve something bigger like you are? These are some tough questions to ask…and don’t take this the wrong way, I’m not telling anyone to dump their friends and family tomorrow. I’m just wanting to get the wheels turning that possibly part of the reason you aren’t where you want to be is because you aren’t surrounding yourself with the right people and adding that piece to the puzzle of becoming the most successful you.
